Purpose in action

Here are some examples of our work th which illustrate our purpose in action:

UNITY CAMPUS:

As part of our commitment to investing in and around the city of Cambridge, we are turning an old, tired industrial site on contaminated land into a high specification, sustainable technology and innovation park development.

Designed to meet the demands of the UK economy’s high growth sectors, such as life sciences, Unity Campus brings much needed investment, community and amenity into the area.

Our first phase of development involved the creation of The Works (63,000 sq ft of flexible, modern workspace) which is now home to game-changing companies supporting the future of UK growth, including Phoremost, IONTAS and Summit Therapeutics.

We are now bringing forward the second phase of development on campus. In response to market demand for agile, flexible science space, Phase 2 will consist of three buildings (a total of 95,000sq ft) each specifically designed to provide high quality accommodation for life science occupiers.

MOUNT PLEASANT HALLS:

We created an innovative student accommodation scheme for St Edmund’s College, University of Cambridge, replacing an outdated, inefficient office building with a new 272 en-suite bedroom and studio complex. The high-specification shared spaces and facilities enable the College to provide the very best student experience in a safe and secure environment.

MOM INCUBATORS:

Since 2001, our experienced Capital Ventures team has invested millions in exciting, unquoted companies like mOm – a medtech start-up on a mission to accelerate access to high-quality healthcare by providing affordable technology solutions that can operate anywhere in the world.

Its flagship product, the mOm Incubator, is a cost-effective, collapsible, and lightweight neonatal incubator offering a safe, medical grade thermoregulated environment for newborns to thrive in.

TAKING POSITIVE STEPS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF YOUNG PEOPLE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS:

We give our time, resources and investment, along with our partners in the property and construction industry, to initiatives that look to end youth homelessness and secure a future for vulnerable young people.

As active members of LandAid – a charity which brings the property industry together to support charities delivering life-changing services for young people who are or have been homeless, or who are at risk of homelessness in the future – we have set up a programme called FutureIn. FutureIn provides traineeships and apprenticeships in construction – giving skills to young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

We are also supporting the roll out of modular homes to provide housing for those living on our streets. A great example of our community and our industry working together to solve social problems.
